Post links to your favorite songs and discuss the different types of genres you prefer/dislike here!
I personally love classical and orchestral types of music. I enjoy some modern music, but most of it has messages and themes that I don't really care for. Too much crap about sex, drugs and violence, and not to mention some very anti-Christian/religion music.
I like stuff like jazz. And low-key rock and roll. Although I don't really listen to much else, so I wouldn't know if I like it or not. x3

I like classical, jazz and rock. I like a lot of the artsier stuff, like progressive rock, and I like really adventurous stuff. When people use instruments in unexpected genres, I'm very happy. :3

I enjoy that, too! I forgot to mention that I also love country and that kind of stuff. I love to hear different and unique instruments placed in unexpected songs. It adds a nice twist to a hopefully already enjoyable song!

I really recommend the Homestuck soundtracks for fans of video game music. It's really stylistically similar.

I listen mainly to the orchestral compositions and medleys of the music from the Legend of Zelda series that came on a CD with the Skyward Sword game. It's not super 'video gamey,' but more classical sounding. But I love the loop music from the original video game. Even if it does really get on my nerves after an hour or two of playing the game. *giggles*

Of all the things I like listening to, orchestral renditions of popular songs are always pretty awesome. I forget the name of the orchestra, but there are a few videos on YouTube of an orchestra covering a handful of Dream Theater songs. It worked pretty well and sounded pretty awesome!

And, also speaking of orchestral stuff, an Australian hip-hop group called "The Hilltop Hoods" rereleased their album "The Hard Road", but with accompaniment by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. That sounded pretty groovy. Not that it hasn't been done before, but that specific example sounded pretty great. I guess you could say it put more emphasis on the orchestra then on the rappers/hip-hop part of it than is normal.

My favorite piece of piano music of all time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4JsVzbGumI

I can play about the first half of this as well. It's a ton of fun and hits all the reasons I love the Romantic Tradition in Classical Music.

One word. One song. Therianthropy. Yup, name of the song. Its metal, but I enjoy the song. Otherwise, I prefer Rock, Classical, and Christian music. I like a little Christian rap.

Feeling depressed and I get the impulse to listen to Arnold Schoenberg. My mind is not a normal place...

Here's some Arnold Schoenberg I actually recommend listening to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ic3ZLj5 ... re=related

Verklarte Nacht (Transfigured Night) is a lush, gorgeous, very introspective work, but also one which is enjoyable to listen to.

I love Nightwish! They get a little silly at times but they've got some great work.

Verklarte Nacht is great 'cause it still demonstrates a lot of emotion other than "uneasiness" despite the unconventional harmony.

Sleet: Indeed, that is exactly one of the reasons why I enjoy it. Also, two others work listening to by Schoenberg are:

Pelleas und Melisande: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2SvMeyeOgQ
Chamber Symphony No. 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhkytzoQpW4

The latter has an obvious sense of humor IMO!

$5 says I'm a bigger Nightwish fan than you >:T
I'm ordering tickets for their performance at Ogden Theatre in September <3
I'm absolutely PSYCHED to hear Imaginaerum live!

On another note, Marilyn Manson's new album is coming out May 1st! \:3/
I loved The High End of Low, and like the direction his music is going in.
Too bad he's so bad in concert now. I want 1996 back. ; 3;

What direction is his music going in now? Is he making good music all of a sudden?

I can't help but feel that is a snide remark, Sleet >:T
The answer to that is actually quite subjective. Really, it depends on how you think his new stuff stacks up to his old stuff.
Most people consider Manson's creative peak to be during his "Antichrist Superstar" era.
When he got divorced from Ditta Von Teese, his music style changed drastically.
"The High End of Low," an album resulting from this style change, is one of my favorites, but Manson fans and critics alike hate it.
"Born Villain," his next album, is supposed to refine his mellower style and shift away from lyrics about his divorce.
Many people are skeptical, but I have faith in Manson. I like his new style. <3

Oh, people are posting song links! \:3/
I'll link to some of my favorites when I get home (not exclusively Manson, of course). :P
