Heh. Wow.

You know, I read a story on Quora recently about a lady who took an Uber to meet a date she'd met online who'd said he was a business man. The date turned out to be her Uber driver! :P

Plastic fountain drink cups are the worst. They sweat all over everything and your ice melts super fast!

that's an awfully dark thing to say D:

I wholeheartedly avoid comment sections on anything though. Nobody ever uses them to say anything respectful or civil anymore.

I'm not talking about the comment section, I'm talking about the article itself. I mean, since when did online news sites start hiring conspiracy theorists to write their articles?

Well The Atlantic is more a magazine than anything.

If you ask me, this person is just trying way too hard.

My bad, the link takes me straight to the comments section for some reason so I assumed that's what you were talking about (and those comments are...not very nice, at all :? but I've grown to expect that from comment sections)

I kinda skimmed through the article though and I found it kinda informative, if a tad sensationalist. There's lots of history of racial problems that got swept under the rug (look up the 1921 Tulsa race riot for example). I did think it was a bit of an odd jump of subjects between the eclipse and racial history though but I suppose that mostly just a way to try to sell the story (why it's listed under the "Science" category is a conundrum, though)

It's an old technique. Take what you want to write about (in this case, racism), then take what people want to read about (in this case, the eclipse), and then do whatever you can to merge the two, no matter how crazy a stretch it takes to make it work. That's kind of lame, if you ask me. Even if I do think there are good points there.

I think a side effect of that technique is that a lot of people who don't read it won't recognize that the writer used one far-off topic to segue into another one, and will think that they're linking two completely different things - in this case I think a lot of people in the comment section thought that the writer was calling the sun a racist. (hey, the sun is kind of racist though, it only burns white people :B *dumb joke* )

It's a unique one-year education to take time for personal and faith development, as well as having more time to choose the next study. Additionally, I can learn about the backgrounds of our culture and the way society works (and thinks).
