The hate in the world has strengthened my faith

There is a lot of hate out there. And when people are hated, they often lash out and hate other people. In fact, our world is a complicated net of hatred. Group A hates group B, who hates group A but also group C, who has conflicting views on just who they need to hate, etc. It's disgusting, and all the while people just repay hate with hate, earning more hate... that's just not right. It makes me feel like there just has to be an escape to this cycle, some light in the darkness. But the more I think about it, the more radical and revolutionary the lessons of Jesus are. Loving your enemies can make cracks appear in the foundation of hate. Turning the other cheek prevents the disease from spreading. What we need is the Gospel, and that's done a lot to make my faith stronger.

Amen to that....when Jesus was met with people who hated and persecuted Him, His response wasn't to start a political movement, or to grab weapons and hide out in the hills, or even to publicly denounce the people who literally wanted Him dead - He never stopped showing them anything but love, kindness, and forgiveness. That's a hard lesson for a lot of people - when somebody actually acts like Jesus in this day and age, they're called "weak", they're told they need to stand up for themselves, and they're told that the people that they're spreading love to don't deserve it because they're doing evil. But we all do evil and Jesus LAID DOWN HIS OWN LIFE just to forgive us for it.

It hurts to show love to people who aren't showing love to you - who may NEVER show love to you - but I can look back and say never once have I regretted the moments where I was kind to somebody who was unkind to me. I have a lot of regrets of mean and hurtful things I've said and/or done - even to people who were mean and hurtful to me first - but nothing I've done out of love and kindness, I have ever regretted, and I never will.

Makes me think of a very specific Bible verse...
"If you fight evil with evil, it will never go from your house."
(Something ?;?, I'm not good a remembering chapters and verses :/)

I couldn't find it, but the Bible has a lot to say about repaying evil with good. Going back to Proverbs, to the Gospel, to Paul's letters, to everyone else's letters...

This might be the verse you're thinking of, but it's slightly off-point...
Quote:
Evil will never leave the house of one who pays back evil for good.
-- Proverbs 17:13

You're entirely right, Sleet!
To quote the common and clich├ęd proverb, two wrongs don't make a right.
Every culture has a version of this and related proverbs like "you reap what you sow" yet humans still ignore this common knowledge in a vain attempt to prove themselves right and superior. It's just another example of how we've fallen.

It's easier said than done.

Heck, even us "good folks" in here talking about how we can't hate those who hate us struggle with this. We all have more we can do to improve!

It's all too easy to bear a grudge!
