This week church was really nice! The message was about food and eating. The pastor talked about the old dietary laws about cleanliness, and how there were also people you weren't supposed to eat with due to them being unclean themselves. He contrasted this to Jesus's teachings about inviting people to eat with you, how you should not only invite the poor to banquets, but also how you shouldn't place yourself in a position of honor (symbolizing how God will exalt the humble and humble the exalted). He went on to discuss how this all applies to feeding the poor. There's a lot of Christians out there. If we all did our part, we could feed a lot of people.

Our pastor preached about Jesus walking to the disciples in the middle of a storm and taking Peter out on the water with him. Not only would that have been terrifying (keep in mind people were superstitious in those times, and believed weather came from spirits and the likes), but it was something completely brand new to Peter. But Jesus didn't care. He asked Peter to have faith and leave the boat with him. Elizabeth was asked to have faith and have a child, which is completely new to her. All the time Jesus asks us to do things that are completely new to us.

Additionally, he drew a parallel to children and asking questions. Apparently children ask like 50 times as many questions a day as adults do; so much more is new to them, so they have more to be curious about. We should be like that, too. When we don't ask questions, we don't learn and we don't open ourselves to new experiences. And those new experiences may be where God needs us.

Interestingly, some of those same concepts were mentioned in church for me as well, or that I was thinking about them.

In Sunday School, we went over the Abrahamic covenant. Part of the responsibility is to bring others unto Christ.
