Favourite Hymns & Worship Songs

Hymns. Worship songs. We all know, love and sing them. So which are your favourites?

Aside from the obvious, “Amazing Grace”, there are two that have brought me a lot of peace, comfort and strength over the years and have helped me through my battles with my mental health.

“Because He Lives” reminded me to cling to God, to never give up hope that things would get better, and that life was worth living and enjoying.

“It Is Well With My Soul” reminded me to trust in God and to receive the gift of His peace and comfort.

“Your Name” is one of my all-time favourite worship songs. I thought it was the coolest song I’d ever heard as a kid and it’s still nostalgic to me. Plus it’s just heaps of fun!

I also love some of Hillsong’s older stuff like “All Things Are Possible”, “My Redeemer Lives”, and “Shout To The Lord”.

“Holy, Holy, Holy” is an awesome groove too!

So what about all of you? What are your favourites?

Who am I by Casting Crowns has been a favorite of mine for years, even when I wasn’t a Christian. I love the melody and the message that I’m so blessed to be here and loved by God.

Great topic. One song that has moved me recently is “Goodness of God” by Jenn Johnson/Bethel. It’s sometimes easy for me to think that God isn’t good or that he isn’t around. Lately, this song has been encouragement to remember times when God was more present, and to look ahead with hope.

I also like “Because He Lives” like you mentioned. “This child can face uncertain days because he lives” is probably my favorite line

Definitely a good one. Haven’t thought of it in years. Good reminder.

I’ll be real, I can’t stand worship music/hymns. Wake me when they drop that 90s power ballad album for the morning services :upside_down_face:

I always feel the urge to sing along with “The Blessing” whenever I hear it! It’s my all-time favorite. I feel such a deep connection to it for some reason. That long “aaaaamen” just gets me literally every time.

ummm i like my father’s world

I’d say my favorite is The Prodigal by Josiah Queen, or Gratitude by Brandon Lake.

One of my favorites has got to be “There’s No One Like The Lord” by Bethel Music, especially the line; “worthy is the Lamb, who was slain and seated on the throne,” I have never heard a line that hard in a Christian song.

My favorites (excluding Christmas and Easter hymns) are

“A Mighty Fortress”
“He Who Would Valiant Be”
“Holy, Holy, Holy”
“The Church’s One Foundation”
“O Sacred Head Sore Wounded”
“Jesu, Joy Of Man’s Desiring”
“Earth Is So Lovely”

That last one is obscure, it is a Swedish Hymn that was only translated to English recently. I love it so much I called up the Laestadian Lutheran Church (which owns the copyright to the English lyrics) and asked a lady with a THICK Minnesota accent to send me the lyrics.

I have just fallen in love with the Austrian Christmas hymn “Still, still, still”, which my church’s choir is doing this season. It’s absolutely ethereal, and I can hardly imagine a better song for Christmas Eve.

my favorite hymn by far has to be “ alas and did my savior bleed” by sovereign Grace music. They did their own rendition of the song that I had the privilege of hearing live at the Sing! conference in Nashville. it just shows that there’s nothing that we have done to earn our salvation, it is all a gift of God so that none of us can boast… I love the imagery when the song says “ for such a worm as I” we as humans have nothing good to bring to the table. It’s all a gift of Christ.
