So, I was recently challenged by myself with the question: Is the furry fandom a sin? I won’t try to go in depth on it, but to sum it up. I am a kid who is an introvert who cries easily, who found out he liked anthropomorphic animals (not in a weird way). I felt like I had finally found something that I like, because most of the other stuff I liked was because my friends and family liked it. I also found out I love Vocaloid. After that, I started to explore a lot of the furry and Miku fandom (this was before my school year started in middle school). Then once the school year started, I felt like I was a different person. I felt like I was hiding behind this cool guy mask and not expressing myself and what I like. So then I reached out to another Christian about the matter, and this is important because I had never actually talked about this stuff with anyone else, and I cried, because I am the kind of guy who cries easily (remember that). That night he gave me a good bible chapter to read. This was over text, by the way.
That night, when I was checking my electronics(my parents made me do it), I started to pray in the hall outside their room. Then, out of nowhere, I asked God if I should bring this up to my parents. I heard God say, “Yes,” and I thought it was just my imagination,s o then I started to ask him again, but God cut me off and said, “Go bring this up to your parents”. I went to my parents’ room; only my mom was in there. I talked to her about it and she (for some reason) she had the idea that a furry was a basically a therian who is. Then I told her to look up the definition of furry, and it proved her wrong. But she did not like that and sent me to bed. A few days later, I got VR Chat because people recommended it. I set my avatar to something that looks like my fursona and went onto a furry hangout. I had a great time and felt, in a way, accepted for what I liked. I had never felt this way; I had only ever felt like I would be criticised if they knew, and if they did know. Then that night my mom came into my room and said, “Yeah, you know those furry people, yeah, they’re just a bunch of psychopaths that only like that stuff because they’re psychopaths.” Then later that night I started to think too much (I am an extremist/deep thinker), and it resulted in me having a panic attack about thinking that I was not good enough. Then I heard God say, “Brody, you are loved,” and then I hit one of those Jax in the mirror TADC moments and felt better. A few seconds after that, my dad came into my room, and I hugged him, and he said that he heard crying and came down. I told my dad why I think I had that panic attack, and then he called my mom down. I felt weird, scared, and disappointed in myself when she came down and you know what they said. No more electronics for this month because of what you have been exposed to on the internet. They also said that they watched some of the fursuiting videos that I had watched and were ashamed. They took away YouTube and told one of my good friends about what happened, and took away YT for him too. I am sorry, Mason. Then, a few days later, my not-so-good friend who we will call Bob decided to share with the group that he was bi. I still do not know if he was telling the truth or not because two days later he told the group that he wasn’t, and then told me in secret he still is. But going back to the day he said he was bi, that gave me the courage to share a little about myself. I did a little drawing of my fursona ( it was buns at the time) and a paw. I said I liked Hatsune Miku (which this racist Christian school hates for some reason), and I liked the furry community (which this racist Christian school also hates). My friends made fun of me, and it made me go into an emotionally low state for the day, and my goat, who we will call Christian, shut the rest of them up because he is big in the Bible. Then, after that, for a while, my parents would poke fun at me and just straight up say mean comments. Like one time I was playing a shooter game with my friend and was wearing furry-resembling skin, and then my mom walked in and said, “You’re lucky your friends accept you for who you are.” I questioned her about the comment a few days later, and she said it was just a joke. Definitely did not feel like a joke, but ok. But I started to notice that I had never cried over any of these mean comments, even though three months ago I definitely would have. I have also gotten into drawing my fursona a lot and just started learning that, whilst having to hide all of my drawings. There is good trust. I had also been going to a youth group with my church and Christian, and I decided to recently bring it up to him, and he said he would pray for me. Which felt nice. Then I saw that my church has a baptism coming up, and I have not been baptised. So I decided to do it, and since I did, I have realised how much my faith has grown, and now I’m seeking an answer to the question. Is being a Furry a sin? All I have been able to find in the Bible so far is Matthew 28:19, which says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” The important part I found in this verse is where it says, “…go make disciples of ALL NATIONS.” So all I really have left to ask is. Is being a Furry a Sin? Please tell me.
